That $700 billion Wall Street bailout included some pork that could power the growth of the fuel-cell industry.

Those “sweeteners” added last week to the controversial $700 billion bailout for Wall Street included a key government subsidy for five fuel cell manufacturers in Connecticut, including companies in South Windsor and Windsor, according to U.S. Sen. Christopher J. Dodd.

Well, not a subsidy, actually, but an extension of a tax credit that had been set to expire.

The five-term Democrat, whose campaign contributors have included fuel cell company executives and at least one political action committee organized by the industry, said the extension would “greatly benefit” his home state’s fuel cell makers. He specifically cited UTC Power in South Windsor, Infinity Fuel Cell and Hydrogen LLC in Windsor, FuelCell Energy in Danbury, GenCell Corp. in Southbury, and Proton Energy Systems in Wallingford…
