LG set to release 3 new music based handsets

April 29, 2009 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Uncategorized

LG are releasing three music phones aimed at emerging markets; the LG GM310, GM210 and the GM205. The handsets feature Dolby Mobile and LG’s Sound Engine, which tweaks audio based on nine presets depending on the kind of music you’re listening to plus dedicated keys for the music player controls; not particularly unique, but considering the price range we’re expecting these to go for, they’re packing a fair punch.

LG have always had a respectable foot in the mobile music door but I feel these new handsets mark a new attempt to capture some of the market that Sony Ericsson mainly have dominated over recent years. The new devices are quite obviously targeted at the younger crowd as they are expected to be in the mid range to lower price bracket however this is yet to be put on paper.

Anyways back to business…

LG GM205

Starting on the low end, the GM205 candybar features 2.1-channel audio, a 2 megapixel camera, and memory expansion to 2GB (seems like everything supports microSDHC these days, so this is a bit of a disappointment even in the lower market segments).

LG GM210

Next on show is the GM210 which switches over to a slider design and ups the expandability to a generous 4GB and supports USB 2.0. Like the 205 it also sports a 2 megapixel camera however no 2.1 channel speakers?

LG GM310

Finally we have the LG GM310 which moves on from the 210 but keeps a similar slide form factor. It has 512 MB or 1 GB internal memory and support for up to 32 GB microSD cards so already you can tell which phone will be at the forefront of this new launch. 32 GB’s is more than enough for your many playlists. There’s even a 3.5 mm audio jack for compatibility with your favourite headphones. The GM310 also sports an upgraded 3.15 megapixel camera with autofocus and Bluetooth 2.1. It has a touch-sensitive navigation panel with dedicated music keys, located under the 2.2″ display with QVGA resolution. On the connectivity side, the LG GM310 offers tri-band GSM and dual-band HSDPA for up to 1.8 Mbps downlink speeds!

The phones will initially be released in emerging markets in Asia and Latin America, including Mexico and Brazil. After that they will inevitably move down to other markets launching in 30 countries in total. There is no definitive word on pricing yet but as I mentioned we believe they should be lower to midrange market price-wise.

Sony Ericsson unveil the T707

April 29, 2009 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Uncategorized

Eye catching. Two words that accurately sum up Sony Ericsson’s latest mobile phone; the Sony Ericsson T707. Why is the T707 so eye catching you ask? Well at first the T707 could pass as a fairly standard flip phone, albeit a particularly stylish one thanks to smooth rounded edges and exquisite materials used in its construction. But the Sony Ericsson T707 promises to light up your life thanks to a range of customisable light effects that promise to turn your phone into a portable light show.

The T707 allows users to customise light sequences and then assign them to specific contacts within your address book. Give your friends their own unique pulsating light effects so when a call comes in you’ll know who it is straight away! Sony Ericsson claim that with the eye catching light effects, you’ll never miss a call (though you could set the phone to act as a warning device if you’re trying to avoid someone!). Launching in a range of striking colours including Mysterious Black and Spring Rose the T707 is certainly easy on the eyes and just as easy on your pocket weighing in at just 95 g.

If you’re thinking the T707 is a case of style over substance think again; HSDPA connectivity serves up lightening download and browsing speeds, an MP3 player with support for a wealth of file formats boosts the T707’s portable music capabilities and expandable memory up to 16GB should ensure you’ve always got enough space for your music and videos. A competent 3.2 Megapixel camera means you’ll never miss that magic moment and for those occasions when a still image just isn’t enough, the T707 captures video too.

While style and design are undoubtedly the focus of the T707, it’s good to see this isn’t at the expense of the T707’s features. Set to launch in the summer, click here to register for updates.

LG GC900 Viewty 2 photos!

April 29, 2009 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Uncategorized

Since it was first tentatively unveiled at the Mobile World Congress event, LG have gone all quiet on the Viewty 2 front. And despite the fact that it has yet to be officially announced or even given a finished name, official images for the GC900 Viewty 2 have leaked from LG hinting that the phone is due to be officially announced imminently!

Looking like a cross between the original Viewty and the LG Secret, let’s have a recap about what we know about the Viewty 2 so far. Featuring an 8.0 Megapixel camera with a Schneider Kreuznach lens, the Viewty 2 is destined to excel in the camera department thanks to premium extras such as face recognition and an image stabiliser. Video capture is also ramped up to 720 x 480 resolution whilst the phone also features support for DivX and Xvid file formats and Dolby Mobile sound technology.

To further differentiate itself from its 8 megapixel touchscreen stablemate, the LG Renoir, the new Viewty 2 (or Viewty Smart as its being called in some circles) runs on LG’s fledgling S-Class 3D interface. Already popular from its debut outing on the recently released LG Arena, the 3D cube interface should feel right at home on the excellent 3 inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen. HSDPA and Wi-Fi connectivity ensure the Viewty 2 will hold its own when it comes to web browsing and should use the same excellent browser as found on the Arena.

As for the rumoured stuff, the Viewty 2 will more than likely feature GPS (possibly with A-GPS support) and it’s safe to assume Geo-tagging will also feature whilst there have also been murmurings of up to 32GB of internal memory (take that Nokia N97!) and even iPhone rivaling multi-touch for the touchscreen display. Whether these features will make the final cut come June when the Viewty 2 is set to launch, we’ll have to wait and see.

With just over a month to wait, it looks like this summer could be the summer of the touchscreen. Click here to register for updates on the Viewty 2 and keep an eye on the Blog for more info as and when we get it!

HTC Touch Diamond2 available to pre-order!

April 29, 2009 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Uncategorized

Having already had the privilege of putting the new HTC Touch Diamond2 through its paces early last month, HTC’s successor to the Diamond had fallen under the radar slightly. But now it’s back with a vengeance, available to pre-order at Mobiles.co.uk and expected in stock in the first week of may! Forgotten why you wanted one? Well read on and let us refresh your memory…

The HTC Touch Diamond 2 is, as the names suggests, the successor to the HTC Touch Diamond but in actual fact it’s sort of a cross between the original and the hugely successful HTC Touch HD. With a feature list that stands up against the flag ship Touch HD, the design and size are more Diamond for a much more pocket friendly device. Opting for smooth metallic lines and a matte black battery case, the Diamond2 is easily one of HTC’s prettiest offerings.

Running on Windows Mobile 6.1means the Diamond2 is now slouch as a smart phone allowing users to open and edit Microsoft Word and Excel files, browse the internet using a scaled down version of Internet Explorer and listen to music through a mobile incarnation of Windows Media player. Working in tandem with Windows Mobile is the latest version of the popular HTC TouchFLO 3D interface. TouchFLO 3D sits on top of windows mobile, giving you quick and easy access to your most used features such as media gallery, contacts and messaging. These sit on a tool bar at the bottom which users can then scroll across to get to their desired application. Fast and fluid, the Touch Diamond2 is best outing for TouchFLO 3D yet!

And before you can accuse the Touch Diamond2 of being all work and no play, HTC have ramped up the camera to 5.0 Megapixels (from 3.2 on the original) and added in Autofocus which promises to capture great photos, improved the screen size and quality, added in HSDPA, Wi-Fi and GPS and an all new touch sensitive zoom bar which works a treat when web browsing and looking at your photos.

Set to launch in the first week of May, pre-order yours now and be the first to get your hands on the strong contender for smart phone of the year! Click here to checkout the latest deals.

Roof Renovation For Beginners

December 31, 1969 :: Posted by - :: Category - Uncategorized

Roof renovation may mean repairing your current roof to be as good as new, or it may be that your roof needs an entirely new surface of shingles or tar. Whichever it is, roof renovation can be a tricky and dangerous process, so roof renovation for beginners needs to include safety.

Safety First A fall from an 8 or 10 foot roof can lead to death or paralysis. Roof renovation for beginners is, therefore, somewhat dangerous. Use ladders when you are working on a roof. Make sure the ladders are firmly stabilized so that they will not sway or fall when you get on. They need to be so securely set that they can stay in place when you are climbing with full hands.

Scaffolding can actually provide a more stable surface for a beginner working on roof renovation. If you are working near the edge of the roof, stand on the ladder or scaffolding, not on the roof reaching over.

Roofs with a steep pitch are especially dangerous, particularly in wet weather. You need to use roof jacks and planks for safety. A roof jack is a bracket made of metal and attaches to the roof with nail. A board goes between the jacks to provide a more stable surface to walk on.

It’s a good idea to use roof jacks and planks, even on roofs that have a more mild pitch. You will also want to consider the safety of the occupants of a home as you complete the restoration. Clean up the nails as they drop, and don’t put ladders and scaffolding over entrance doors, if you can avoid it.

Repair A beginner may learn to replace flashing on the roof, the soffit and facia, or repair shingles. Replacing an entire roof is likely beyond the skills of a beginner, and shouldn’t be attempted without careful oversight from an experienced helper or a professional.

For a leaking roof, often the homeowner can do a roof restoration by replacing blown off or broken shingles. Note where the leaking point is in the home, and mark it. Then find the marker on the roof and make note of any damaged shingles there. If there are damaged pieces, then the leaking is likely a result of the damaged roof.

Replacing damaged shingles is generally a roof renovation for beginners. It can be done with a few basic tools and without a great deal of experience.

First, find the broken or damaged shingles. If the roof is curling back, get a quality asphalt roof cement. The easiest way to work with it is in a tube made for a caulking gun. In warm weather, go on the roof, flatten the shingle, and glue it down again. In the winter time, you may need to use a propane torch to slightly soften the shingle. Don’t use such a tool on your roof unless you know to use it.

Broken, torn or rotten shingles should be replaced. Hopefully you have a few spare shingles stashed in the garage; if not, roofers can usually supply a few.

Pry off the old shingle with a pry bar and nail and caulk a new shingle in its place.

Finally - A Fun Mac Twitter Client

December 31, 1969 :: Posted by - :: Category - Uncategorized

For quite a while, I have been looking for a decent Mac Twitter client. With so many clients based on Adobe’s AIR platform, it’s hard to find one that is native to the Mac OS X Cocoa system.

I have found that Adobe AIR apps are often buggy and simply don’t measure up to the competition.

So, for me, a Twitter app needs to meet a few qualifications:

It must be a native Mac app. I don’t want to have to install a runtime just for that application.

The program must be exceedingly stable. I hate programs that crash.

It must have a clean, fluid interface without the clutter of most Twitter clients.

The application must have the standard Twitter features: block/unblock, follow/unfollow, user profile viewing, trend searches, and direct messaging.

Finally I have found an application that is fun and easy to use: Tweetie.

First for Atebits was Tweetie for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Now it has made it’s way to the Mac platform.

Tweetie quickly became a popular download in the Apple App store as one of the best Twitter clients for such a low price.

Because of Tweetie’s iPhone version success, Atebits developed a full-featured version of the software for the Mac platform.

Tweetie is a 100% native Mac Twitter application. Based on Cocoa, Apple’s native programming workflow, Tweetie meets my first requirement.

Tweetie has yet to crash for me. I have it open nearly any time I’m at my computer (which is often) and I have yet to see a single crash or slowdown. So it meets my second requirement.

Tweeties UI is nothing short of impressive. It’s beautiful and powerful but not overworked. It isn’t littered with useless buttons and widgets. At the left side of the screen are four buttons:

Timeline (for updates from you and your friends) Mentions (for all tweets that mention you with an @yourusernamehere ) Direct Messages Search

You can also get to several unlisted functions by using key combos - as shown in the program’s menus. In the notification area of your Finder bar sits a notification icon that glows blue when new Tweets arrive. This beautiful UI satisfies my third requirement.

Tweetie does sport an impressive set of features. You can drill down into your conversations and see a detailed display of what you said and what was said in reply.

Tweetie for Mac also supports user profiles. Read bios, find out who is following you and who isn’t. You also have the option to block a user from his profile.

By using the search function, you can find hot topics, users, or even phrases. See who is talking about a given topic and follow or block users from this screen.

Tweetie even includes a nifty “bookmarklet” for your web browser so you can quickly send links via Twitter.

For photo uploads, Tweetie for Mac uses yFrong, TwitPic, Posterous, Twitgoo, Img.ly, and Pix.im

You can even shorten long URLs directly in Tweetie with it’s support for Bit.ly, TinyURL, Is.gd, tr.im, and even DiggBar.

Multiple user accounts are also supported by Tweetie.

With such an extensive feature list, Tweetie more than fulfills my fourth requirement.

Tweetie is a free to download and try as long as you want. The free version is ad supported. You also have the option of buying a license for $20 which removes the ads.

I have no complaints about this amazing little app. It does everything I need and more. If you are seriously looking for a Twitter client for you Mac, take a serious look at Tweetie. I think you will be impressed.

If you want more info about Tweetie, check out the Atebits website.

The Lexmark S 1855: A Printer For The Average User

December 31, 1969 :: Posted by - :: Category - Uncategorized

The average person uses a computer on a regular basis and will often need a printer to use with it. A popular option amongst home users now is the laser printer, and one excellent choice is the Lexmark s 1855 and
Lexmark S 1855 toner. While the company no longer produces it, it can still be found at affordable rates from individual sellers online and save you money over a new model.

It’s important to mention that this printer does not print in color, only black and white. But before you use this point to write it off, consider how much you actually use color printing personally. For casual users, printing will be in black and white most of the time. Professional services or libraries provide an option for any color prints you require.

To use your printer, you must stock it with the necessary ink and toner, printing paper, and other items. The webpage for the printer provided by Lexmark also provides many of these products for your consideration. You can also try looking for them online as you did with the printer itself, from independent sellers that let you get small amounts or buy in bulk.

When buying your printer and/or accessories from independent sellers, check to be sure they can be trusted to give you what you’re paying for. In terms of the cost, compare amongst different sellers and make note of who includes shipping and who doesn’t. A price that is too low will often leave you with bad equipment, so base your search off an average cost.

It is also important, in regard to shipping, to look at how the printer will be sent to you. The costs have already been mentioned, but know that because of this product’s size, they will add considerably to the final cost. As such, you want to make sure the method used will get your purchase to you safely, or at least provide a refund option if something happens during delivery.

Though you might not look at the official company webpage for the Lexmark s 1855 when you are looking to buy accessories for it, you should not avoid the site completely. It provides useful stats that will help you decide if the printer works for you and, if it does, it also gives you information to set it up with your computer and find solutions for any problems with it.

A print resolution of 1200×1200 dpi and an 18 page per unit print speed are standard for the Lexmark s 1855. Also standard are typical output and input trays and a single port for connectivity. Optional are an envelope feeder for paper handing and a variety of other ports - for infrared and ethernet among others - that can be either local, network, or both. Be sure to only use
Lexmark S 1855 toner with this product.
